April Newsletter

This month RPL turns five and we share exciting new ways for you to get involved! Once again, our continued growth wouldn’t be possible without YOUR support!

RPL’s 5th Anniversary

“We are filled with gratitude for the dedication and commitment demonstrated by our members, volunteers, and supporters. Your inspiration and enthusiasm have been the driving force behind our success, and we cannot thank you enough for standing with us in our mission. However, our work is far from over. The challenges facing our public lands continue to grow—from climate change, habitat destruction, and access issues to the increasing pressures of development and resource extraction. Now, more than ever, we need your support to continue our efforts and expand our impact”.

We would not have been able to accomplish all the work we’ve done without your support. As we continue to grow, we invite you to make a donation to RPL to help us keep growing our impact. Again, a massive thank you for helping us develop these past five years!

Exciting New Ways to Get Involved!

Camp & Run with RPL

We will be hosting the 2024 Camp & Run in partnership with Cloud City Conservation Center, Friends of Lake County, and the Lake County Tourism Panel.

The weekend will include discussions with local experts and notable trail running athletes, hands-on service projects, and time to connect with new friends. There will be opportunities to run, hike, swim, and explore the treasured landscapes of this iconic trail-running town throughout the weekend.

Thank you to our brand coalition members for sponsoring this event including Teva, Trail Butter, Best Day Brewing, GU, some incredible local businesses, and more! You can expect some great samples and product demos throughout the weekend as well!

RPL x Patagonia Fun Hog Runs

We are excited to bring back our Ventura monthly fun runs in partnership with Patagonia on May 21st! Join us every third Tuesday of the Month for an evening social community run starting from Patagonia's Great Pacific Iron Works. All paces are welcome and stay tuned to our instagram for more details as we get closer to the run.

Our runs in partnership with Patagonia Cardiff and the Coastal Run Club are growing strong! Thank you to the amazing San Diego run community for supporting our work and showing up to enjoy the trails of San Elijo Lagoon on the last Sunday of every month!

Trail Work Series

On April 23rd, we kicked off our second year of the Colorado Trail Work Series. We had 11 volunteers show up for our Earth Day planting project! Throughout the day, these volunteers were able to plant 25 native plants and remove about 300 square feet of invasive species. This event marked the first of many trail work days in our Colorado Trail Work Series. For a complete list of trail work days, and to sign up for future events, click here.

We are excited to announce that we are expanding this series and just launched a new Trail Work Series in partnership with Indiana Dunes National Park and Trailblazer Running! For a full list of work days, and to register for upcoming events, click here.

This event kicks off on May 9th at Tolleston Dunes, where we’ll be pulling invasive Garlic Mustard and learning about Native and Invasive plants. Sign up here!

Trail Running Film Festival

This past month RPL hosted two Trail Running Film Festival (TRFF) events; one in Ventura and one in San Diego! We were overjoyed by the turnout at both of these events and loved connecting with so many of you surrounding these incredible films. Once again, thank you to TRFF for making RPL the official Non-Profit partner of this year’s film festival and to the film review committee! We loved getting to raffle off prizes at the events and sharing a bit more about the work we do here at RPL.

I Run for Project: At these two events, we wanted to learn about what is inspiring and motivating our community of runners right now and how running impacts their lives. We asked runners to answer a series of questions such as “Who do you Run for? Where does running take you?”. We loved reading these cards and are continually inspired by the people who make up this community!

In the Press

This past month, two articles were published about our work and what we stand for here at RPL. Our Founder and Board President, Vic Thasiah, wrote a piece entitled The 4 R’s of Running the Earth, which was published in Outside Run. Read the full article here!

Kat Baker, our executive director, also published an article in Running Insight entitled Going National. You can read this article here!

Before You Go

Thank you for your continual support as our organization continues to grow. We look forward to the year ahead and many meaningful miles shared on the trails!
