July Newsletter

The month ahead holds multiple opportunities to get involved with RPL. Once again, our continued growth wouldn’t be possible without your support!

2023 Annual Report

Curious to see what kind of collective impact we made in 2023, and our (strategic) plans for the next few years? Check out our 2023 Annual Report. We did a whole lot of important work together, and have so many people to thank: our brand coalition partners, all of our program partners and sponsors, our ambassadors who co-lead all of our monthly community runs, and you, everyone who continues to support public lands. In our Annual Report, you’ll also see ways you can get involved with RPL. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you’re interested in helping us grow our efforts.

Trail Work Series:

New! Flagstaff Trail Work

We are happy to announce that our trail work series is growing! The series will be introduced in Flagstaff in partnership with Peak Trail Runners, Wilderness Volunteers and Coconino National Forest. The first work party will take place on August 8th at the Schultz Creek Trailhead. Click here to register!

Volunteers will help fix up the Lost Burrito trail and turn it into a foot traffic-only trail in the Dry Lake Hills/Schultz Creek area. No experience is required and everyone is welcome to join. All who participate willl be entered in an amazing raffle including prizes from our partners Kahtoola, HOKA, GU, Athletic Brewing, and more!

Advocacy

For decades runners have benefitted from the expertise of federal agencies in defending threats to both public health and public lands and protecting the people and places we love. A recent Supreme Court decision just made that work a heck of a lot tougher and we at RPL are preparing for the implications for our work.

  • What is Chevron Deference and how does the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision to overturn this impact the climate crisis?

  • How is Chevron decision impacting policies that Runners for Public Lands and other outdoor advocacy organizations have worked hard to support?

See our blog for our thoughts on the above. To stay informed on how the Chevron Deference and other recent government changes may impact environmental and recreation policies runners care about follow along on our social media and future newsletters.

Everyone Runs Fun:

Mensah Races at Mt. Rainier!

Earlier this month, Mensah Bey, one of this year’s Everyone Runs Fund recipients, ran the Mount Rainier Half Marathon in Washington! We wanted to offer a huge congratulations to Mensah for achieving this goal! Next up, Mauricio will run the Pikes Peak Marathon in September, followed by Candace running the Moab 240 in October. Be sure to follow our Instagram to stay up to date on this year’s recipients.

Be sure to stay tuned for an upcoming article in RUN magazine in a few weeks time highlighting all of this year’s recipients as they share more about their stories and their goals for the year ahead!
