On June 17, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources (ENR) Committee will be holding a “markup” on the America the Beautiful Act (S.1547), a bipartisan bill by Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) and Senator Angus S. King, Jr. (I-ME), co-sponsored by more than 60 other senators from both sides of the aisle. This bill would specifically reauthorize the Legacy Restoration Fund (LRF), an important program aimed at helping land management agencies address a growing backlog of maintenance and repair projects across national parks, forests, wildlife refuges, and other federal public lands. These projects include repairing aging infrastructure like roads, bridges, and water systems as well as trails, campgrounds, and facilities.

The LRF was established in 2020, but its authorization expired in 2025. The upcoming markup hearing is the best chance to advance the bill from the ENR Committee to the full Senate.
