The 2026 Trail Work Series (TWS) is underway. Each event brings volunteers together to improve trails commonly used in races through hands-on service, sometimes alongside professional crews. As land agency partners continue to face budget cuts and staffing shortages, community-driven volunteer trail work remains essential.

We host these events with support from our members, ambassadors, and local land management organizations, including Los Padres Forest Association, U.S. Forest Service, Jefferson County Parks & Open Space, Solano Land Trust, and Rooted Vallejo. This year, Athletic Brewing Company, Santa Barbara Foundation, Altra, Fractel, GU, Nomadix, and Teva are sponsoring TWS.

So far in 2026, RPL has organized seven successful events and scheduled 30 trail work days, with additional events in development. These events are spread across eight regions in five states.

Since launching the program in 2023, RPL has hosted 63 events across eight communities nationwide. These efforts have activated 830 runner volunteers who have contributed 2,253 hours of trail maintenance. Volunteers have completed brushing, tread repair, drainage clearing, landslide remediation, water caching, trail rerouting and closure of illegal trails, native planting, invasive plant removal, support for professional crews, landscaping, and trash cleanup.
