As we reflect on 2025 and the continued growth of our remarkable community, we are proud to share Runners for Public Lands’ work and impact over the past year. This annual report highlights the tangible work that Runners for Public Lands has contributed to the community with over 1,100+ hours of community service and over 4,500+ runners mobilized through our programming.
A Message from RPL’s Founder and Our Executive Director
What began just a few years ago as a vision—to connect runners to the protection of public lands—has continued to evolve into something both more expansive and more consequential. In 2025, we deepened our role as a national voice for runners in the policy decisions that shape access to the places we love. We engaged directly with federal agencies and lawmakers, mobilized race directors and runners across the country, and helped defend the landscapes that define the running experience. At the same time, we strengthened the programs that bring this work to life—from Camp & Run to our Trail Work Series and the Everyone Runs Fund—where advocacy, community, stewardship, and access come together in meaningful ways.
But what we are most proud of is how this movement is taking shape. More and more, runners are showing up not only as participants on trails but as community leaders in the shared work of protecting public lands. Together, we are helping to build a constituency that understands a simple but urgent truth: access to nature is not guaranteed—it must be protected, strengthened, and expanded.
And the need for this work continues to grow. Public lands face increasing pressure—from policy instability to under-resourced agencies to the impacts of a changing climate. In this moment, the opportunity before us is clear. With your partnership, we can expand our advocacy, deepen our programs, and ensure that public lands remain places where all people can experience the freedom, connection, and renewal that comes from time outside.
Thank you to our volunteers, members, partners, and supporters whose belief in this work makes it possible. This report reflects what we have built together—and the future we are working toward.
